Developing an architectonic: Segment & Rotate
The relationship between roughness and smoothness was investigated through segmentation and rotation. By performing actions on a substrate of strips that included lift, bend, twist, and pinch, spaces of varying degrees of enclosure were created, as well as residual zones of excavation.
Circulation on site
Goals about circulation drove the actions performed on the substrate: major axes were identified in the Philadelphia Navy Yard in order to bring visitors to the site.
Distribution of program
The substrate was preprogrammed with a gradient corresponding to scale, that once lifted began to suggest the distribution of program on site.
